The cruciate ligaments are highly susceptible to injury from sudden movements or strong impacts to the knee joint. Such injuries are especially common among athletes who play sports like football, tennis, or badminton, as well as in cases of traffic accidents or daily-life accidents.
QUICK RECOVERY AFTER ENDOSCOPIC CRUCIAL LIGAMENT RECONSTRUCTION USING ALL INSIDE TECHNIQUE

One week before hospital admission, Mr. B.B.T (41 years old, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) injured his left knee after falling during a sports activity. His knee became swollen and painful, with limited mobility and a feeling of looseness. As a result, he visited Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital for examination.

After admission, the Orthopedics & Traumatology specialists ordered an MRI scan, which revealed a complete anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear and a meniscal tear in the left knee. Mr. T. was scheduled for arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the All-Inside technique. This is a modern surgical method used worldwide and has been implemented in several leading arthroscopy centers in Vietnam. It allows patients to return to daily activities and sports more quickly.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the meniscus are among the most important structures of the knee, enabling smooth movement and stable mobility. When the ACL is torn or the meniscus is damaged, it can lead to serious complications and may even result in loss of mobility if not treated properly.
In cases like Mr. T.’s, where both the ACL and the meniscus are injured, minimally invasive techniques such as the All-Inside ACL reconstruction offer outstanding advantages for early functional recovery, according to Dr. Huynh Dang Thanh Son (Specialist Level II), Deputy Head of Orthopedics & Traumatology Department.

The surgical team introduced instruments and a camera into the knee joint through a small skin incision (about 0.5 cm) to perform arthroscopic evaluation. The internal structures of the knee were magnified and displayed on a large monitor, allowing the surgeon to clearly visualize and assess all injuries inside the joint. The patient’s own hamstring tendon was then harvested to replace the torn anterior cruciate ligament. Thanks to this technique, patients recover more quickly after surgery, face fewer complications, and can usually be discharged within 2–3 days.
Postoperatively, the patient remained stable, used a Zimmer brace on his left leg to protect the graft, and was able to walk on crutches. The left knee joint displayed normal mobility, and he was discharged after four days. Mr. T. will continue physical therapy as instructed to strengthen the muscles and fully restore function.

Dr. Son added that when an ACL tear or meniscal injury is treated promptly with the correct surgical technique, combined with a structured physical therapy program, patients can fully regain mobility and return to normal sports activities within 7–9 months.

After just one month of intensive physical therapy following the prescribed regimen, Mr. T. returned for follow-up with significant improvement, rapid recovery, and excellent mobility.
