The cancer situation in Vietnam has never been simple:
According to the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, gastrointestinal cancers account for up to 30% of all cancer cases, making them among the most prevalent cancers in the country. Among these, liver cancer and gastric cancer—both classified as gastrointestinal cancers—are the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in Vietnam.

Therefore, gastrointestinal cancer screening plays a crucial role in early detection and the development of appropriate treatment strategies, significantly increasing patients’ chances of survival and improving cure rates.
When Should You Undergo Gastrointestinal Cancer Screening?
Gastrointestinal cancer screening should be performed as early as possible, especially for individuals who fall into the following categories:
- People with chronic diseases of the digestive organs, such as the liver, pancreas, stomach, or colorectal system;
- Individuals with frequent alcohol consumption or unhealthy dietary habits;
- Those with a family history of gastrointestinal cancers, particularly stomach or colorectal cancer in parents or close relatives;
- Individuals experiencing abnormal symptoms of the upper or lower gastrointestinal tract, including bloating, indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux, abdominal pain, vomiting blood, persistent constipation or diarrhea, blood in the stool, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, and other related symptoms.
