Recently, Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital has received multiple emergency cases in which patients presented with sudden, severe headaches. Brain CT scans revealed that these patients had intracranial hemorrhage caused by ruptured cerebral aneurysms, a condition that can be fatal if not treated promptly.

Patient N.T.T (51 years old) arrived at the hospital with persistent headaches. She reported that four months prior to admission, she had experienced intense headaches accompanied by high blood pressure. She self-medicated whenever her blood pressure increased, and the symptoms temporarily subsided. On May 12, the symptoms returned and became progressively worse, especially on the right side of her head. Her family brought her to a local hospital, where a brain CT scan revealed a ruptured cerebral aneurysm.
Another case involved patient L.T.N.A (55 years old, Cambodia). Five days before admission, she experienced severe headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and weakness in both legs. Her family took her to a hospital in Cambodia, where MRI imaging revealed a cerebral aneurysm. She was immediately transferred to Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital for further treatment.
In yet another case, Mr. T.V.N (59 years old) developed a headache three days prior to admission and subsequently collapsed at home. His family first took him to a local hospital, then requested transfer to Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital. There, CT angiography of the brain revealed a ruptured right middle cerebral artery aneurysm, requiring urgent surgical intervention.
In all three cases, once the patients arrived at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, the Neurosurgery – Spine team promptly conducted a multidisciplinary consultation, identified the exact locations of the aneurysms, and decided to perform microsurgical clipping of the aneurysm neck.

Dr. Le Kham Tuan, PhD – Head of Neurosurgery & Spine Department at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, stated:
“Cerebral aneurysms can develop at any location within the brain, especially at arterial branching points. These aneurysms must be treated promptly because once they rupture, the patient enters a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate intervention. Fortunately, all the aneurysm cases mentioned above were transferred to the hospital and operated on in time, with excellent outcomes.”
The Neurosurgery surgical team — including Dr. Le Kham Tuan (PhD), Dr. Truong Cong Lam (Specialist Level I), and Dr. Duong Duc Anh (MMed), together with the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation team — successfully performed aneurysm clipping using an advanced microsurgical system. The aneurysms were completely excluded, eliminating the risk of further rupture. One day after surgery, the patients experienced significant relief from headaches, and after five days, they were discharged in stable condition.

Dr. Duong Duc Anh, MMed, added:
“A cerebral aneurysm is one of the potential causes of stroke. Most aneurysms develop silently without symptoms. However, when an aneurysm becomes large enough to compress surrounding structures, it may cause symptoms such as persistent headaches, changes in vision, or pain above and behind the eyes. When a cerebral aneurysm ruptures, it can lead to severe complications such as intracranial hemorrhage, stroke, and even death.”
