In an unexpected nighttime accident, veteran MC Thanh Bach fell into a 3-meter-deep drainage ditch and slipped again after sitting on an unstable rock. The fall resulted in a right hip dislocation, requiring immediate emergency treatment.
Well-prepared for a scheduled talk with 1,200 students at Bao Loc High School, Thanh Bach encountered the accident at around 4:30 a.m. while approaching the school in low visibility. The initial fall caused trauma, and while attempting to rise, he accidentally sat on a loose rock and fell a second time.
Concerned by his prolonged absence, family members searched for him and eventually found him seriously injured. He was taken to Bao Loc Hospital, where initial diagnostics revealed a pelvic fracture. Due to the severity of the injury, he was transferred to Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital for specialized care.
A Severe Injury Requiring Timely Surgical Intervention
Upon arrival at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, doctors from the Emergency Department immediately conducted a full examination, including CT scans, MRI, and other diagnostic tests. The results revealed a fracture of the right acetabulum (the concave surface of the pelvis that forms the hip joint) and a hip dislocation, where the femoral head had shifted backward and slightly upward. Additional findings included signs of lumbar spine degeneration.

Nam Sai Gon Team Successfully Treated Complex Acetabular Fracture with Hip Dislocation
The combination of an acetabular fracture and hip dislocation is a serious condition that demands timely intervention to prevent long-term mobility issues. Orthopedic surgeons at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital opted for open reduction and internal fixation using advanced techniques to restore the injured pelvic structure.

After several hours of meticulous surgery, the patient’s hip joint was realigned and stabilized successfully. Importantly, the sciatic nerve, often at risk in pelvic procedures, remained unharmed.
To enhance precision, the team utilized a C-arm imaging system – a mobile X-ray device that provides real-time visualization during surgery. This technology helped ensure the accurate placement of screws and plates, minimizing complications and maximizing surgical outcomes.

Ensuring Postoperative Safety and Long-Term Recovery for MC Thanh Bach
Once internal fixation was completed and the hip joint was stabilized, the surgical team carefully closed the wound in layers to minimize infection risk. The site was then dressed and compressed to reduce swelling and prevent complications. A Zimmer brace – a lightweight, rigid orthopedic support device – was applied to maintain hip alignment during recovery and aid bone healing.

Thanks to the expertise and coordination of the surgical team, along with the use of modern techniques and equipment, the complex procedure was successful. MC Thanh Bach’s recovery proceeded smoothly, with minimized risks and promising results.

Currently, his condition is stable. While he still uses crutches for mobility, he has resumed basic daily activities. Doctors recommend continued monitoring and physical therapy to improve joint function in the coming weeks.

Before discharge, MC Thanh Bach wrote a heartfelt thank-you letter to the hospital team, expressing his deep gratitude for their care and professionalism. In his final check-up, doctors emphasized the importance of regular follow-ups and a consistent rehab routine to ensure full recovery and prevent future complications.
