COMPLETION OF THE FIRST TRAINING COURSE ON “PATIENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS”

With the dedicated guidance of Dr. Nguyen Truong Khuong, MSc, Specialist Level II – Medical Director of the Hospital, the course brought together 17 doctors from the Departments of Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Outpatient Services for a meaningful learning journey.

Across 4 training sessions, 12 hours of discussion, and over 15 hands-on scenarios, participants explored essential skills for effective communication with patients.

Completion Of The First Training Course On “Patient Communication Skills”

On May 29, the first cohort of the “Patient Communication Skills” training program officially completed their course at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital.

Key skills covered in the training included:

• Demonstrating empathy in communication
• Active listening techniques
• Applying the AIDET communication model
• Communicating with outpatients: clinical consultations, explaining diagnoses, encouraging treatment compliance
• Communicating with inpatients: daily morning rounds, discussing severe conditions, handling high-stress situations, preoperative conversations, refusals or delays of surgery
• Communicating in sensitive or challenging situations: when patients complain, exhibit difficult behavior, refuse treatment, or when delivering bad news (e.g. cancer diagnosis or end-of-life cases)

At the end of the course, all participating doctors were awarded certificates of completion and are now equipped to apply their knowledge and communication skills in clinical practice — contributing to better care experiences and higher patient satisfaction.
