The Arthroscopic Anterior Cruciate Ligament (Arthroscopic ACL) reconstruction technique is currently being applied at the Orthopedics & Traumatology Department – Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital. This modern method offers high safety, minimal infection risk, less postoperative pain, and small incisions with minimal scarring.
Patients recover quickly and return to daily activities as if they never had an injury, thanks to coordinated treatment that includes physical therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and a well-balanced nutrition plan.
Six months before hospitalization, Mr. D. sustained a left knee injury while playing sports. The knee became swollen and painful, but he neglected medical care. Over time, symptoms worsened, with increasing joint instability, especially when walking or climbing stairs.
Upon recommendation, Mr. D. sought care at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital. After undergoing successful arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, he recovered well and was able to return to sports. Unfortunately, he later suffered a similar ACL injury on the opposite leg during a game and returned to the hospital for further treatment.
According to Dr. Huynh Dang Thanh Son, Specialist Level II – Deputy Head of Orthopedics & Traumatology Department, ACL tears are among the most common sports-related injuries. Without proper treatment, they can significantly affect mobility and quality of life. Timely intervention is crucial to restore function and prevent further complications.
In Mr. D.’s case, following his first successful surgery, he not only returned to normal daily activities but also resumed playing football. However, patients with prior ACL surgery should remain cautious and continue physical rehabilitation to maintain joint stability.
Both of Mr. D.’s surgeries were performed using the arthroscopic ACL reconstruction method – a modern, safe, and effective technique that helps restore optimal knee function, especially for those with athletic demands.
Dr. Le Van Quynh, Specialist Level I, Orthopedic Surgeon at Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, emphasized that ACL tears are common knee injuries. Ideally, surgery should be performed within the first three months after injury. Delayed treatment increases the risk of joint degeneration, beginning with cartilage damage from friction and eventually leading to extensive joint surface erosion and chronic pain. For patients under 60 who are still active, early reconstruction is strongly recommended. With the arthroscopic approach, patients experience less pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.
Following surgery, Mr. D. was stable, mobilized with Zimmer splints and crutches, and discharged just two days post-op.
Benefits of Arthroscopic ACL Reconstruction
- Minimally invasive with minimal soft tissue damage
- Faster tendon and bone healing, less bleeding
- Reduced pain during and after surgery
- Quick recovery and minimal need for post-op care
- Cost-saving due to shorter hospital stay
- Fast surgical time: only 35 to 45 minutes
Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital accepts both public health insurance and private health insurance.
